Understanding Your Account Number and Sort Code

For more information about your debit card, check the debit card features and functions page.

What is an Account Number?

An account number is personal to your account, meaning every personal, joint, business, saving etc. account has its own identifying number. This is usually 8 digits long.

So even if you have two or more accounts, even with the same banking provider, they’ll have different account numbers.

What is a Sort-Code?

Your sort code is personal to the bank your money is kept in, meaning if you have two accounts with the same banking provider, they might share a sort code.

In traditional banks, the sort-code is specific to the high street branch you bank with. For online banking accounts who don’t have branches, like Suits Me, they won’t have as many sort codes. We have got two sort codes depending on your account type.

When do I use an Account Number and Sort-Code??

Typically, you should only give your account number and/or sort code out if you’re:

Your account number and sort-code are used to locate your account. If someone is paying you, the sort code will let their bank know where your money account is and the account number will tell them which specific account it is.

If you want to send a bank transfer or payment to someone, you need to ask them for their account number and sort code.

How do I Stay Safe When Giving out my Account Number and Sort-Code?

Only give your account number and sort-code to people you can trust including your friends, family, employers and Suits Me team members (only do this if you contact us directly, we will not ask for your account number unless you call our customer care team).

Your account number can help malicious hackers attempt to access your bank account, so only give it to someone you know.

  • Where possible, do not give your account number and sort-code at the same time as other personal details such as your full name, address and phone number. This might not be possible depending on the transfer/direct debit.
  • Do not give your long card number or the 3-digit CVV number at the same time as your account number and sort code. If someone asks for both the request might be fraudulent.
  • Never give your PIN, password or one-time password (OTP) to anyone, including Suits Me staff members, regardless of where you’re sending your account number and sort code too.

Make sure you check your account regularly for unusual activity and always double-check the person/organisation requesting your account number and sort code is legitimate. Please report any suspicious activity to Suits Me as soon as it happens.

Credit card payments - how to pay your credit card

Making your credit card payments on time is quick and easy to do. There are lots of different ways to make the monthly payments to your credit card and stay in control. Find out more in our handy guide.

By Direct Debit

Set up a Direct Debit to make automatic credit card payments each month, either for a set monthly amount, the minimum payment or the full balance.

You can set up and manage your Direct Debit with MBNA using Online Card Services, or by giving us a call.

Once a Direct Debit is in place, your monthly payment will be credited to your credit card account on your payment due date. The money will be collected from your bank or building society by the next working day.

This video explains the basics to help you get started.

One off payments

If you’d like to be in full control, or make additional payments on top of your Direct Debit, you’ve got a few options. Just make sure at least the minimum amount is covered each month, and the payment method used will get your payment to us before the due date. You can make additional payments at any point to reduce your balance and any interest costs.

If you make additional payments to your account during the month we may still collect your Direct Debit in full.

By bank transfer or debit card

Using the MBNA Card Services app simply log in, then select ‘Pay credit card’.

From here you can choose to pay by debit card or, more conveniently, to pay from a bank or building society account.

If you choose to pay from an account you hold elsewhere:

  • Enter the amount you’d like to pay.
  • From the list, select the bank you have an account with and want to pay from.
  • We’ll briefly hand you over to their website or app to approve the payment.

This service isn’t possible with all banks and building societies yet, but more will be added as time goes on.

We only share payment information. No other personal details are shared between financial service providers. For full details and terms, please read our payment initiation services agreement (PDF, 65KB).

There are a few other ways to make a debit card payment to your MBNA credit card.

Using Online Card Services:

  • To get started, log in or register.
  • From your credit card account summary, select ‘Pay credit card’.

Or call 03456 062 062. Speak to an adviser Mon-Fri 8am-10pm, or Sat-Sun 8am-6pm. You’ll need your 16-digit credit card number, and your debit card details.

Alternatively, you can make a payment from your current account in the same way you’d pay a bill or person. You’ll need these details:

Account number – 0000 0000
Sort code – 77-29-00
Reference – your 16-digit card number

Current account payments should reach your MBNA credit card account and update your available credit within 2 hours, but allow at least 1 working day for your list of recent transactions to update.

Debit card payments will reach your MBNA credit card account by the next working day.

By cheque

You can send a cheque to us by post, but please don’t send cash in case it gets lost.

Make your cheque out to MBNA, remembering to write your name and credit card number on the back. Once it’s complete, send your cheque to:

MBNA (180)
PO Box 274
Sheffield
S98 1RJ

Allow at least 7 working days for delivery and for your payment to reach your account.

Important to know – we don’t accept cheques for dates in the future (post-dated). These are usually returned, which could result in missed payments and additional fees.

From overseas

If you have a UK bank account or debit card, you should still be able to make payment online or by phone from outside the UK. Check the sections above for details.

If not, most overseas banks should be able to arrange a BIC or SWIFT payment to us. Processing times can vary, so check with the overseas bank when you request your payment.

You’ll need these details:

  • IBAN: GB38LOYD30675699067997
  • BIC/SWIFT: LOYDGB21705
  • Reference: your 16-digit card number

Important things to remember when making credit card payments

Time it right

If your credit card payment due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday, these are classed as non-working days, so you may need to allow extra time for your payment to reach us.

Check your statements

It’s important to check your credit card statement each month, not only to spot transactions you don’t recognise, but also so you know what you need to pay and if there any changes to your account. Look out for:

  • Outstanding balance - this is how much you owe on the date your statement was produced.
  • Minimum payment due - if you can, try to pay more than the minimum to clear your balance faster.
  • Payment due date - if your payment is late, you’ll be charged a fee and could lose any promotional offers.
  • Interest rates - the rate of interest for each type of transaction, e.g. card purchases or cash withdrawals.
  • Payment allocation - in simple terms, your payments will be allocated to higher-rate transactions that are shown on your statement before those charged at lower rates. For full details please check your credit card terms and conditions.

You can see up to 12 months of statements online, just log in or register for Online Card Services, to get started. If your account is paperless, you’ll get an email to let you know when there’s a new statement available to see online.

Avoid charges

In most cases, you’ll be charged for going over your agreed credit limit. You may also be charged if a payment of at least the minimum amount doesn’t reach your account before the due date detailed on your statement. These charges are covered in your credit card terms and conditions, so make sure you check them.

It’s important to keep track of your account, which you can do easily using Online Card Services. Check out our guide so you know which fees and charges to expect.

Estimated interest

Your statement will detail ‘Next month’s estimated interest’, just so you’re aware and can budget accordingly. The calculation assumes that:

  • You continue to make the minimum payments on time.
  • You don’t make further transactions in the coming month.
  • You don’t incur additional fees or charges.
  • There are no changes to your statement date or interest rate (excluding promotional offer expiry).

Good to know - we don’t charge interest on purchases made during your latest statement period if you pay off your full balance (including any balance transfers and money transfers) by the payment due date, and you also paid your previous month's balance in full by the due date.

Learn more about statements.

Clear your balance

If you’d like to pay off your credit card in full, it’s important you understand the interest charges which could apply and when they’ll be charged. Read about clearing your balance.

How do I make a payment?

Make payments and check the status of your payments online or in our Klarna app. Log in online to make a secure payment with either a debit or credit card.

Follow the steps below to make a payment
  • Log in to our app
  • Select ‘My Klarna’ to find the option to view your ‘Purchases’ or all your ‘Payments’
  • Choose the purchase or account you want to pay
  • Follow the prompts to submit your payment ensuring to use the correct payment information when making a payment to avoid any errors.

How to always pay monthly Financing statements on time.

Authorise automatic payments by enabling autopay and connecting a direct debit mandate to allow Klarna to automate debits to guarantee your statements are always paid on time.

How do I set up automatic payments?

Set up autopay to ensure you always pay your Financing statement on time and to keep your promotional terms. When automatic payments are enabled the interest-saver amount shown on your monthly statement is debited on the last working day of the month. If there is no interest-saver amount, the minimum amount shall be debited.

Follow these steps to enable automatic payments:
  • Log in with the email address associated with your Klarna account
  • Select ‘My Klarna’ then ‘Payment methods’
  • Choose ‘Connect a bank account’ then ‘Enter your bank details’ and complete the steps to link your direct debit mandate.
  • Toggle automatic payments on to enable autopay

How do I make a manual payment?

If you don’t want to enable automatic payments, you can also make manual payments. You can either make a manual payment to pay the minimum amount, interest saver amount, or pay off your balance early. Making an early payment for a Fixed Sum Loan Agreement will shorten the payment term, not reduce the monthly payment amount.

You can make a manual payment by clicking “Make a payment” in your monthly email statement, or by following these steps:

  • Log in with the email address associated with your account
  • Tap ‘Payment options’ to make a manual payment.

Please note, if you have promotional purchases which are due at the end of the month we recommend paying the interest-saver amount to ensure you maintain your promotional terms. Alternatively, you can pay your minimum payment. Please note this transforms any promotional balances to our standard rate account, which is charged at 18.9% interest.

Are my payments safe?

Payment information is processed securely by Klarna. All transactions take place via secure connections, protected by the latest industry standard security protocols.

Good to know:Payments cannot be made over the phone.

Which payment methods are accepted by Klarna?

Klarna currently accepts all major debit and credit cards except AMEX. Prepaid cards are not accepted.

Good to know:

  • When your due date has passed, it is no longer possible to pay with a credit card.
  • You can only use a debit card to pay for your Financing statement. Credit cards are accepted for down-payments, but keep in mind that your bank might charge extra fees.

  • Account number: 81238817

Use your Three account number as the reference. It's at the top of your bill and starts with a 9.

If your bank is within the EU, you can also use our International Bank Account Number (IBAN) to pay us, which is: GB19MIDL40025081238817.

In person

You might want to pay us in person, which is absolutely fine, so long as your bank offers a Bank Giro service. You can pay your bill by cash or cheque, but remember you won't be eligible for the monthly £5 discount. If you do want to get £5 off your bill each month, paying by Direct Debit is the best option.

  1. Take the Giro slip from the bottom of your bill to your bank. If you take it to a different bank, they may refuse to accept it or charge you for the service.
  2. Give the Giro Slip and the cash or cheque to the cashier.
  3. Allow at least 3 working days for the payment to reach us.

  • Where possible, do not give your account number and sort-code at the same time as other personal details such as your full name, address top cash rewards credit cards 2018 phone number. This might not be possible depending on the transfer/direct paypal credit sort code and account number not give your long card number or the 3-digit CVV number at the same time as your account number and sort code.

  • You can only use a debit card to pay for your Financing statement. Credit cards are accepted for down-payments, but keep in mind that your bank might charge extra fees.

  1. I just got scammed. But I just realised that I got scammed when I watched this video. I was lucky that I was at work and the card reader was at home. I told them to ring next morning. This gave me time to look into videos and website. So the key thing is that never allow anyone to make you use your card reader whatever the circumstances.
