In the latter case it is quite necessary to clean out those junk files from your Mac for complete removal.

For some novice users, they may have no idea how to remove TeamViewer in a proper way. Even for the experienced users, they may also get lost when trying to uninstall a problematic, stubborn or even malicious application. In this post we will discuss the following questions: (1) What is the correct way to uninstall TeamViewer? (2) How to ensure all its accompanying components are removed safely? And (3) is there a shortcut for both Mac novices and experts to take to accomplish TeamViewer removal effortlessly?

Conventional Steps to Uninstall TeamViewer for Mac

Prior to the removal of TeamViewer, you should first log into your Mac with an administrator account, and turn TeamViewer off if it is running. To deactivate an app, right click its icon in the dock and select Quit option (or choose TeamViewer > Quit TeamViewer on the Menu bar).

Also, you can access the Activity Monitor (located in /Applications/Utilities/ folder), and see if there is any background process pertaining to the app. If TeamViewer cannot be quit normally, you can select the app in Activity Monitor, click the large red “Quit Process” button in the left corner and click Force Quit button in the pop-up dialog.

Option 1: Drag TeamViewer icon to the Trash

  1. Open up the Finder, click Applications on the left side, and then select TeamViewer.
  2. Drag TeamViewer to the Trash (or right click on it and then select Move to Trash option).
  3. Right click the Trash icon and select Empty Trash option to start the uninstall.

This drag-to-delete method works in all versions of Mac OS X. Most 3rd party apps can be smoothly uninstalled in that way, but you cannot delete built-in apps by doing this. Some apps installed using the Mac package installer will prompt you for a password when you try to move it to the Trash. In any case you cannot move TeamViewer to the Trash or empty the Trash, try holding the Option key as you choose Empty Trash from the Finder menu, or reboot your Mac and try it again later.

Warming: It is important to point out that, emptying the Trash will instantly wipe off TeamViewer as well as other files you’ve thrown into the Trash, and that this act is irrevocable, so make sure you haven’t mistakenly deleted anything before emptying the Trash. Any time you change your mind and wanna undo the deletion of apps or files, just right click the item in the Trash and select Put Back option.

Option 2: Delete TeamViewer in the Launchpad

  1. Open up Launchpad, and type TeamViewer in the search box on the top.
  2. Click and hold TeamViewer icon with your mouse button until it starts to wiggle. Then click the “X” that appears on the left upper corner of TeamViewer to perform the uninstall.

This tap-and-hold method is applicable for the apps installed through the App Store, and it requires OS X lion or later. Once you click the X icon, the uninstallation of TeamViewer will be handled immediately, and there is no need to empty the Trash afterwards. This way cannot uninstall built-in apps as well.

Option 3: Launch TeamViewer built-in uninstaller

It is worth mentioning that, some applications for Mac come with their own dedicated uninstallers, e.g. Adobe and Microsoft. Those apps will install additional software to provide extended functions, or place library files and associated application dependencies elsewhere in OS X. You can manually delete all the accompanying components as well, but it would be better to run the specialized uninstaller to fully remove the application alone with its bundled software or associated items.

  1. Locate the TeamViewer installation file and double click to open it up.
  2. Select the [uninstaller] in the package and double click to run it.
  3. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstalling process.

To uninstall the software and plugins that don’t show up in the Application folder or come with a uninstaller, you are supposed to go to their official websites and look for their own downloadable uninstallers or the uninstallation instructions provided there. As for some apps that are built in macOS, you can either run commands in the Terminal to delete it, or try the uninstall tool offered in the last section of this post.

Delete TeamViewer Library Files, Caches & Preferences

Most OS X application are self-contained packages that can be easily uninstalled by dragging them to the Trash, but there are exceptions too. Some of you may wonder if the classic methods mentioned above help remove the associated files or folders created by TeamViewer. Well, even though completely uninstalling apps on OS X is much more simple than that on Windows, you may need to check if there are support and preference files left on your hard drive after TeamViewer has been deleted. TeamViewer vestiges may not do much harm to your system but do take up a certain disk space. Therefore, if you are not gonna use TeamViewer any more, these remnants can be deleted permanently.

There are tow locations where apps store their preferences and supporting files, and both are named Library. Apart from these files, TeamViewer may also scatter its components like login items, startup daemons/agents, or kernel extensions around the system.

To remove all the traces of TeamViewer from your Mac, do the following steps:

Part 1. Top Level Library on Hard Disk: /Library

  1. Open the Finder, click on the Go from the Menu Bar, and select Go to Folder.
  2. Type the path of the top level Library on hard disk: /Library, and hit Enter key.
  3. Search for the items with the name of TeamViewer in the following locations:
    • /Library
    • /Library/Caches
    • /Library/Preferences
    • /Library/Application Support
    • /Library/LaunchAgents
    • /Library/LaunchDaemons
    • /Library/PreferencePanes
    • /Library/StartupItems
  4. Right click the matched files or folders, and select Move to Trash option.

Part 2. User Library inside Home Folder(~/Library)

  1. Head to Go > Go to Folder, type ~Library in the box and hit Enter key.
  2. Identify and delete the similar named files or folders in the same set of folders:
    • ~/Library
    • ~/Library/Caches
    • ~/Library/Preferences
    • ~/Library/Application Support
    • ~/Library/LaunchAgents
    • ~/Library/LaunchDaemons
    • ~/Library/PreferencePanes
    • ~/Library/StartupItems
  3. Empty the Trash to delete TeamViewer leftovers permanently.

Application components may appear in a wide range of locations, including but not limited to the aforementioned file paths. For instance, some antivirus and security software will install additional kernel extensions which are by default located in /System/Library/Extensions. For the leftovers that are not obvious to identify, you might do a Google search for the app components, and perform the removal carefully.

Manually deleting TeamViewer leftovers can be a laborious task for inexperienced Mac users. Click “Download Team Viewer”

After the install completes, a box will open that says "Review System Access"

If Team Viewer doesn't appear on any of the privacy tabs click the Lock icon, and in the tab press the + icon

Click Applications and click Team Viewer, this will add it to the list.

Click Connect

Using a Windows Keyboard with a MacBook… and TeamViewer

I have what appears to be a rather unique problem:

I do all of my work on my MacBookPro because it's very powerful. However, since I commute to and from school by bicycle, I don't want to risk carrying my macbook in a backpack (what if I fall and the MBP dies?). As a result, I use a very low power machine (mid range Pentium4) at home as a thin TeamViewer client, though which I connect to my MBP.

Also, while at school, for ergonomic reasons, I use an external keyboard (wireless) and monitor. This external keyboard is a Windows keyboard, so I need some way to remap on my external keyboard to and vice-versa.

To this end, I tried using DoubleCommand. While this was a very useful application, it had the nasty side effect of remapping the keys on my MBP's native keyboard as well. Further, I lose the remapping when I connected from my TeamViewer client at home and am forced to use the windows key when I want .

So I switched to KeyRemap4MacBook. While this required a lot of configuration (and I mean a LOT), which I'm not opposed to, it turned out to be very flaky and decided to remap my mouse when I configured it not to (the same config would change its mind on whether to remap my mouse within 5 minutes). So this turned out to be a no-go.

A friend then told me that synergy is highly configurable, so I'm trying it out, but I don't seem to be able to remap keys on the synergy server (my MBP). Further, I don't know if remapping the keys on the external keyboard will remap the keys on the native keyboard. Also, I will have to do some really weird hackery to get it to work correctly when I connect from home using TeamViewer.

  • Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner.

  • Navigate to System Preferences → Security & Privacy

  • Navigate to the Privacy Tab

  • Click the lock icon and enter your admin password to allow changes

  • Go to Accessibility

  • Checkboxes to allow Teamviewer permissions

Catalina OS

Catalina requires additional steps for your Phonecheck rep to view and control your station.

  • Go to Screen Recording and checkboxes for Teamviewer

  • Review System Teamviewer for mac will prompt

  • Change Accessibility option from Denied to Allowed

Team Viewer access for Mac OS 10.14 Mojave and Mac OS 10.15 Catalina

Apple has introduced a security mechanism with macOS 10.14 (Mojave), which requires special access to be granted to remote control applications like TeamViewer.

And macOS 10.15 (Catalina) has strengthened the security and privacy even further, and requires additional permissions to be given to TeamViewer in order to control your Mac.

Without this access, TeamViewer users connecting to macOS 10.14 or higher will only be able to view the screen but not control it with their mouse or keyboard.

And TeamViewer users connecting to macOS 10.15 or higher will additionally only be able to view the desktop background and the TeamViewer app, but not any other applications at all.

These additional permissions must be granted locally on the Mac and require admin rights. Teamviewer for mac process differs between Mojave and Catalina.

Note: TeamViewer is not able to grant this access by itself, nor can the access be granted remotely through a TeamViewer connection from another computer.

How to grant access to TeamViewer on your Mac

  1. If you're using the latest release of TeamViewer 14 on your Mac running macOS 10.14 (Mojave), you will be presented with this dialog when you start TeamViewer:

Note: if you're using an older version of TeamViewer, you won't see the dialog above. Instead, macOS will prompt you with the dialog below when the first incoming connection is made to your Mac.

In the dialog shown above, click the Request Access button, which will bring you to this Accessibility Access (Events) dialog:

  1. Click the button Open System Preferences. You will be taken to the Accessibility section of the Privacy pane, inside the Security & Privacy preferences.

If you're starting TeamViewer 14.7 on your Mac running macOS 10.15 (Catalina) for the first time, you will be prompted with the following dialog:

By default, all permissions are set to Denied. Please give permission to the system capabilities manually to use TeamViewer as desired. If you or others need to access the Mac remotely, Screen Recording and Accessibility are required at a minimum.

To allow access, click the buttons shown in the dialog. Eg. click Open Full Disk Access Preferences. which will bring you to the Full Disk Access section of the Privacy pane, inside the Security & Privacy preferences:

For the Accessibility access, you will need to click the padlock icon in the lower-left corner to make teamviewer for mac. You will be prompted to enter the credentials of an administrator account to continue.

Repeat the same for Screen Recording and Accessibility if desired. Those are required to control your Mac.

Click again on the padlock in the lower-left corner to prevent further changes.

  1. SimbosanYT I went back and read the manual. The only thing you can “nest” is drum racks and instrument racks, in Ableton, and that’s not the same as bitwig, where you can nest a DEVICE in a DEVICE, as I described above.
