Suburban Milwaukee Hobby Lobby stores are closed as south florida state college panther central businesses, although some other large chain craft stores remain open.

Last week, Gov. Tony Evers ordered all nonessential businesses to close under his safer-at-home order. The order stays in effect until 8 a.m. April 24 or until a superseding order is issued.

On Monday, West Allis police shut down the Hobby Lobby at 6900 W. Greenfield Ave.

"We made contact with the business around 11 a.m. and found that it was open," West Allis Deputy Police Chief Christopher Botsch said. "We took this as an opportunity to educate the business on the specifics of the amazon music logo png order. The business was cooperative and closed without incident."

Hobby Lobby locations in Brookfield, Franklin, Menomonee Falls and Waukesha were resigned to the same fate Tuesday, despite being open Monday.

“We made contact with the business in town yesterday around 5:45 p.m. and let them know that, in our interpretation of the governor’s order, they were not an essential business,” said Menomonee Falls Police Capt. Jeff Knop on Tuesday. “There weren’t any issues; they were cooperative and shut down.”

Signs outside the Brookfield and Waukesha Hobby Lobby stores early Tuesday indicated they were “operating as an essential business” by “offering PPE mask supplies, educational supplies, office supplies and various components for home small businesses.”

Early Tuesday, employees at both the Waukesha and Wauwatosa locations said via phone those stores were open, but they could not guarantee for how long. Patrons were also seen walking into the Brookfield location before it closed Tuesday morning.

An employee at the Waukesha store indicated around 1:15 p.m. the store had been shut down a little after noon Tuesday.

The Waukesha Police Department had previously indicated it had been made aware of complaints about the craft store and other similar businesses remaining open and that the city was in discussions with Hobby Lobby about its ability to be open.

The Wauwatosa store remained open as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wednesday morning, calls to the store went unanswered. An online notice said all local stores were closed.

The City of Wauwatosa directed a call about Hobby Lobby's essential status to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Another news outlet reported the Wisconsin Economic Development Council does not consider Hobby Lobby an essential business. A message left for the WEDC regarding how long is hobby lobby open today status of other craft stores how long is hobby lobby open today nonessential businesses was not returned in time for this story's deadline.

Hobby Lobby reportedly sent a letter to employees last week announcing it planned to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic and “continue to make every effort to work the employees.” A message left at Hobby Lobby's corporate office was not returned.

Other hobby stores

Other craft stores in the area have continued business as usual, albeit with shortened hours.

The four suburban-Milwaukee Michaels stores — in Brookfield, Brown Deer, New Berlin and Germantown — were open Tuesday. An employee at one location said via phone they did not expect to be closed in the near future.

The company said on its website that how long is hobby lobby open today addition to monitoring guidance from local, national and global health organizations, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure that our corporate office, stores, distribution centers and other facilities minimize risks.”

JOANN Fabrics and Crafts, another national craft store chain, had some locations still open Tuesday. Its Greenfield and Menomonee Falls stores had closed, while the Cudahy and Brookfield locations remained open.

The disparity between some craft stores being open and some being shut down can be attributed to how different jurisdictions interpret Evers’ order, said Brookfield Police Lt. Chris Garcia.

“A lot of what we have to do is interpret the gray area of the law, and it’s no different with this order,” Garcia said. “In general, we have to determine if what they are offering fits under the guidelines of what an essential business is, as defined by the state.”

Under Evers' order, grocery stores, hardware and supplies stores are considered essential, along with other "critical" trades and manufacturers.

As Cherry Hill eagerly awaits its new Hobby Lobby to open, it would appear we are now in the home stretch as they are actively hiring for the new location!  Prior media reports indicate they are targeting a January 2021 opening, and in a recent discussion with the Deptford store (regarding hiring) we were unofficially told they are still hoping for a January opening.

News first broke of Hobby Lobby expressing interest in putting one of their stores in the Hillview Shopping Center off Route 38 way back in January of 2019.  With the bankruptcy of parent company Toys R Us and the closing of all stores in 2018, the newly abandoned Babies R Us left a large gaping hole in the shopping center.

Unfortunately the Babies R Us was smaller than a typical Hobby Lobby – the Babies R Us was 37,000 square feet and a typical Hobby Lobby is almost 25% larger at 45,000 square feet.

The Cherry Hill Planning Board quickly approved a 7,170 square foot addition to the rear of the Babies R Us at the February 4, 2019 meeting.  This brought the square footage up to 44,170, which was enough for Hobby Lobby to sign on the dotted line.

Incidentally, if anyone has sent a drone up over this area and has a photo of the addition, please send it along so we can add it to this post, with full photo credits to you!  The photo directly below from Google Maps does not show the addition.

Construction began soon after that and completion was originally expected during this past summer.  Unfortunately Covid-19 got in the way and delayed the project.

But now&hellip. we are getting close.  Last week, Hobby Lobby held a week-long hiring event in Mount Laurel.   And this week through Friday, they are accepting applications for the Cherry Hill store at their Deptford location.

They are accepting applications for Department Managers, Cashiers, Stockpersons, Bookkeepers, and Freight Receivers, with starting pay at $13 per hour.  (It should be noted that full-time workers make at least $17 per hour, and they are closed on Sundays!)

This will be Hobby Lobby’s 5th South How long is hobby lobby open today store, with locations in Deptford, Sicklersville, Lawrenceville and Mays Landing.  It has more than 900 stores in the United States.  If you have never been to one, at the Cherry Hill Planning Board meeting, it was noted they are similar to a Michael’s or AC Moore.

Hobby Lobby is disrupting the shopping cart for many of its customers with its plans to end a weekly 40%-off how long is hobby lobby open today savvy shoppers know about the big blue and white 20%-off Bed Bath & Beyond coupon, but it’s not the only one with a fanatic following. The arts and crafts retailer’s customers are pushing back, saying they depend on the discount to buy regularly priced items that never go on sale.

A short announcement on social media this week that said the coupons would be discontinued Feb. 28 has since been removed from the retailer’s Facebook page. It was captured and reported by USA Today and others.

“By making this decision, we are intensifying our efforts to discount thousands of items every day. This will offer a better value instead of providing a discount on only one item with the coupon,” the retailer said. “It is always our intent to provide you with beyond compare service, great prices and the best selection. We appreciate your understanding during this period of transition and thank you for your continued business.”

The retailer’s chief rival, Irving-based Michaels, the largest U.S. arts and crafts chain, has a regular 20%-off coupon and additional tyra sanchez song to customers who provide an email address orsign up for its loyalty program. Michaels launched its rewards program in 2016, updated it last fall, and now has 50 million members.

Hobby Lobby hasn’t commented on the response from shoppers.

Hobby Lobby has issued the weekly coupon in its advertisements and on social media for some time. It arrived weekly with the same drumroll comment: “The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived: the 40% off coupon is here!” followed by a link.

Comments from dismayed customers remain on the retailer’s Facebook page. Many shoppers are hooked on coupons and make purchase decisions around them, adding they’ll be watching to see if it leads to lower prices.

“It is a huge mistake,” one customer said. “It brings me into the store for an item and I always find something else to buy as well.”

Another customer went the all-caps route. “Hobby Lobby . KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER!! If you do away with the coupon, you will lose a lot more sales. You will lose customers. DO NOT DO IT.”

And a third customer said the decision will result in new business for Michaels.

“I have to drive pretty far to get to Hobby Lobby, how long is hobby lobby open today I can’t just go back each week, hoping for my item to go on sale,” the customer wrote. “At least Michaels still has theirs. As much as I like HL, it looks like I’ll probably end up at Michaels more often now.”

Hobby Lobby has more than 900 stores in 47 states, and it hasn’t stopped opening stores. A new one is scheduled to open in Prosper in February.

Hobby Lobby had four new store openings in January in Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The Oklahoma City-based privately held retailer also operates Mardel Christian and Education supply stores.

Arts and crafts retailer Hobby Lobby will finally open its new Torrance store in February — in the former Toys ‘R’ Us space on Hawthorne Boulevard, opposite Del Amo Fashion Center — almost a year after an initial opening date came and went without the company welcoming customers at the location.

“At this time, the current estimated (opening) is scheduled for February,” the company said in an email Friday, Nov. 6. “This location will bring about 35 to 50 jobs to the community paying $17.00 (an hour) for full-time and $13 per hour for part-time associates.”

Toys ‘R’ Us went bankrupt in 2017, closing the Torrance store and its other locations nationwide. The retailer also closed its Babies ‘R’ Us chain at the same time, including its Torrance store a few blocks to the north on Del Amo Boulevard, at the Torrance Promenade shopping center.

A rock climbing gym was supposed to take the place of that store, but no work has yet started.
