What effect will shopping for an auto loan have on my credit?

In some cases, applying for multiple loans over a long period of time can lower your credit score(s). Generally any requests or "inquiries" by these lenders for your credit score(s) that took place within a time span ranging from 14 days to 45 days will only count as a single inquiry, depending on the credit scoring model used. You can minimize any negative impact to your credit by doing all of your shopping in a short amount of time. You could save hundreds or even thousands of dollars by shopping for the best rate and terms on a loan.

For example, let's say you are looking around for an auto loan and you authorize five lenders to check your credit score(s) within a 14 day time span. All those inquiries should count as one inquiry.  If you shop for a mortgage loan at the same time you are shopping for an auto loan, the shopping you do for those two loans should count as two separate inquiries.

And don't worry about all those promotional offers for credit cards impacting your credit score(s). These promotional offers do not affect your credit score(s).

The Beginning by, Me.

When I finally received my I-Phone, it was time to try banking on line. I downloaded this app & began a totally new adventure. As time provides, I’ve been slowly delving into what I thought would be an amazing experience where banking and bill pay would become easily completed with minimal effort. Wrong, not entirely true. At this point I am frustrated. To simply pay my bills every month, without fumbles, less stress and time, I find out from ALL options, I’m not able to do online banking to pay aforementioned bills because I don’t have the necessary accounts available to do so. I have checking, savings and a fairly healthy CD.....I wonder, why can’t I bank online? Why does it say I’m unable to use this app for online banking because I haven’t the accounts to do so? Huh? What? I’m so confused! I can’t locate the forms I need either....I want to be sure when I pass, my daughter receives all my monies from these “Appropriately Established” accounts! I’ve called 3 times to have the forms mailed to me...to no avail and I’m unable to pay my bills online. I’m disabled, hooked up to oxygen, unable to go into the bank as I mentioned when I called. I was told to open online banking that that would help me handle everything from home. If I figure it out one day, you’ll receive the 5th star. Take care my friend.

Ok I don’t know if I’m talking about the bank of the Benk’s employees. I walked into the bank branch the other day to make a deposit and the teller convinced me to talk to a small business representative and so I did. The business representative explained to how easy and worth was for me to open a line of credit and before I could think they had me filling an application. On the conversation I explained all my life to the financing agent and said that I did not want a hard inquiry in my credit for no reason. She told me the for her experience and my record with the bank it would not be a problem to get the line of credit. I trusted her and went for it.
After 7 days an other agent called me for an interview over the phone and she denied me based on my records; recored that they had access all along. So my review here is for you to be aware of shifting employees in branch who want to make a little extra with total disregard with people’s life. They don’t care if your credit will be damaged or your time wasted all they care is that they make they percentual extra money. Or it could be the bofa system too that operates on forcing them to screw clients with the complete disregard with damaging their personal life.
So it could be the bank, the employees or both.

Auto payment

Your auto payment feature is unacceptable. For some accounts you do not allow payment of statement balance or minimum payment amount which makes it impossible to automatically pay each month to avoid a late payment. You actually require a dollar amount and that can result in an overpayment which we then have to request to be refunded. That did happen to me. So I shut it off and as a result I was charged a late payment for being a few days late paying because I could not access my account to pay an unexpected charge that went through the account. Which leads to my next complaint about the website.

I could not remember my password and therefore could not get a reset as I did not have my credit card available. Instead of allowing reset like other credit card companies by answering chosen questions, you make us enter the account number which I did not have because I could not access my statements which are delivered online. Since I did not have my card with me, I had to call in... having to try to call back multiple times as your lines are very busy. By the time I was able to get a person on the phone, I was 3 or 4 days late paying and you had charged me a late payment. I always pay on time. You have years of history with me paying on time, yet your customer service refused to refund the charge even though I have years of history paying on time and only was late because I could not get into the account.

You must be 18 years old or otherwise have the ability to legally contract for automotive financing in your state of residence, and either a U.S. citizen or resident alien (permanent or non-permanent).

What qualifies a vehicle for a new vs. used auto loan rate?open

Vehicle is considered new when it meets both of the following criteria:

  • Never been titled or registered with the DMV or any other appropriate agency
  • Odometer (if applicable) has less than 6,000 miles

When you apply for an auto loan with Bank of America, you'll be asked to provide personal information such as your name, address, Social Security number, employment information, income, U.S. citizenship status and email address.

Depending on the specifics of your loan request, the following documents may be required prior to closing: purchase agreement/bill of sale, registration, title, lease buyout instructions, proof of income, federal tax returns, W-2s and financial statements.

For refinance loans and lease buyouts, we require specific vehicle information such as make, model, year, mileage and vehicle identification number (VIN).

  • Private party

    You can purchase a vehicle from another individual via a private party loan. Online Banking customers may apply online for a private party loan. What do I need to do to title my car?open

You will need to complete the title process for your vehicle within 20 days of loan closing. Here are the steps you'll need to follow:

  1. Obtain the title, lien release or both from the seller, the state titling agency or lien holder of your vehicle.
  2. Take the title, lien release or both along with the title application you will receive from us to your Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or state titling agency. Note: You will be responsible for any costs associated with completing the title process.
  3. Transfer the registered ownership of the vehicle into your name(s) as listed on your Bank of America documents. Important: Only the borrower(s) listed on the loan documents can be the registered owner(s) listed on the title.
  4. Ensure we're listed as the lienholder on the title as follows:

What if I purchase my car from a dealer?open

What options do I have for making payments to my auto loan?open

You have multiple auto loan payment options:

  • Pay capital one spark visa Bill Pay: If you're an Online Banking customer, you can sign in to set up payments through Bill Pay. With Bill Pay, you can schedule recurring or one-time bill payments from your checking or money market accounts.

How can I sign up for automatic payments to my auto loan?open

If you're an Online Banking customer, you can sign in to set up payments through Online Bill Pay. With Online Bill Pay, you can schedule recurring or one-time bill payments from your checking or money market accounts.

You can also use the paper signup form included with your welcome package. Include a voided check and mail or fax it to the location indicated on the form.

After signing up, you'll receive a letter in the mail within 3-4 weeks confirming the start date for your automatic payments to be made. In order to avoid any late charges, please continue to make your payment as usual until you receive the confirmation letter.

Important note: When scheduling automatic payments, you only need to enroll using one method (either the paper signup form or Online Banking). Submitting the paper form and also signing up in Online Banking can result in multiple payments being made from your account each month.

How can I get a letter showing the interest I paid last year?open

There are 2 easy ways to obtain a letter detailing the interest you paid last year on your car loan:

  • Sign in to Online Banking and select the Automobile Loan link provided under the Personal accounts heading on your accounts overview page. Then, in the column marked Manage your loan at the top of the page, select the Last year interest paid letter link. This will open the letter in your browser and you can print it for your records.

What effect will shopping for an auto loan have on my credit?

In some cases, applying for multiple loans over a long period of time can lower your credit score(s). Generally any requests or "inquiries" by these lenders for your credit score(s) that took place within a time span ranging from 14 days to 45 days will only count as a single inquiry, depending on the credit scoring model used. You can minimize any negative impact to your credit by doing all of your shopping in a short amount of time. You could save hundreds or even thousands of dollars by shopping for the best rate and terms on a loan.

For example, let's say you are looking around for an auto loan and you authorize five lenders to check your credit score(s) within a 14 day time span. When I first met Sam and Gina, they had this dream that they wanted to accomplish.

When we first signed our lease on this building, people were questioning it, like "you sure you want to open a brewery on the south side of Bethlehem in the current climate?"
