Walmart grocery order -

As people are practicing social distancing amid the COVID-19 outbreak, many are looking into getting essential items like groceries via delivery and pick-up services. Even if you're a die-hard Walmart fan, however, you may not be aware that the store has its own system for ordering pickup.

To help those who may be new to the game, we rounded up everything you need to know before you place your first Walmart order via the grocery app.

How do I place an order for Walmart pick-up or delivery?

Simply go to their Grocery site or download the grocery app from your phone's app store. There you'll be prompted to create an account, as well as select a delivery address or pick-up location and a time slot. They recommend you do this before starting an order since spots fill up so quickly. Pickup and delivery availability can vary by location, so this will also let you know if either is available in your area.

Also, the first time you place an order, they'll ask if you want some tips for ordering, which we highly recommend. You can also check them out here. Some app-specific bonuses include marking favorite items for easy re-ordering, setting Siri shortcuts, and tracking your order.

What is the difference between pickup and delivery?

Depending on availability and your location, you can choose between pick-up and delivery for that day or the following day, which can make spots kind of tough to snag. Be sure to check back often, especially first thing in the morning.

If you choose pickup, it's free, but you'll have to show up at a scheduled time at your selected Walmart location. Employees will load your trunk with your groceries and that's it!

If you choose delivery, you'll incur a charge of around $8. You can also sign up for Delivery Unlimited, which is $12.95 a month or $98 a year. If you choose this option, you'll definitely want the Walmart app because you'll be notified when your driver leaves and you can track their progress through the app, too. If you're cool with it, they can simply leave your groceries at your door step as a form of contactless delivery.

How do I start shopping?

Once you create an account and get a time slot, you can start searching different Walmart departments and add items to your cart by clicking the "add to cart" button. Oh, and depending on what you want, make sure you either enable or disable substitutions for the order in case your store is out of something.

You'll have to hit a $30 minimum and since availability can be scare, it's better to do orders in larger batches rather than smaller, frequent ones. It's also worth noting that you cannot use coupon codes other than Walmart's refer-a-friend promotion (more on that below).

Once you're done shopping and you've hit your minimum, double check that you have everything you need, that your delivery or pickup location and time are correct, and then check out.

Are there any promotions I can use?

Walmart has a referral program that can save you and your friends money on grocery orders. Go to this site to receive your own personal referral link. Send the link to your friends and once they complete their first order, you’ll receive a $10 promo code for your next order.

Another way to save if you shop at Walmart often is through a store-affiliated credit card, which give you 5 percent back.

Walmart Has Lost Its Lead in Online Grocery

As we entered 2020, Walmart(NYSE:WMT) had built a substantial lead in online grocery service, offering order pickup at 3,200 locations in the U.S. and delivery from 1,600 of those stores. When the pandemic hit and consumers restricted their in-store shopping, Walmart was well positioned to win.

But as of February 2021, Walmart has allegedly seen its share of online grocery sales drop from 40% pre-pandemic to about 31%, according to an internal memo  seen by Recode. Competitor Instacart has seen its share of online grocery orders rise to 30%, putting it neck and neck with Walmart. Meanwhile, Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) and Target(NYSE:TGT) have improved their online grocery selection and reach, cutting into Walmart's market share as well.

What happens when online grocery order growth slows?

The drop in Walmart's market share of online grocery should be especially concerning for Walmart investors.

Online grocery sales in the U.S. grew 54% in 2020, according to estimates from eMarketer. Based on that number and Walmart's market share estimates, the retailer's online grocery sales grew about one-third slower than the overall market. On an absolute basis, it only contributed $4.5 billion to $5 billion of sales growth, with total sales nearing $30 billion last year.

But as online grocery sales growth falls back down to normal levels this year and next, Walmart may have trouble increasing sales at all. That's especially true considering Target only introduced curbside pickup for groceries last summer, and rolled it out to all of its stores by late fall. Likewise, Amazon's online grocery selection and availability is still expanding after a big push last summer.

As a result, online grocery may go from a driver of Walmart's e-commerce business to a drag on sales and profit growth. That's especially true considering Walmart viewed online grocery as a gateway to convert customers to general Walmart.com shoppers. But that's an area where it's struggling to keep pace with the rest of the market as well. The memo also showed Amazon and Target cutting into Walmart's general merchandise market share during the pandemic.

Walmart+ is struggling to keep customers engaged

Walmart revamped its grocery delivery subscription service and launched it as Walmart+ last September. The service saw some early success. Following its running start, it counted as many as 8 million subscribers by February, according to data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. But it's struggling to retain subscribers and convert trial members into paid members, according to the memo.

Walmart+ is a key initiative to increase customer loyalty, especially considering the majority of Walmart's top spenders are Amazon Prime members. In fact, as Walmart struggles to plug its subscription leakage, Amazon just saw its best year of Prime subscriber growth ever. It's added roughly 50 million Prime subscribers around the world since the start of the pandemic.

What does the future hold for Walmart?

Walmart entered 2020 in a strong position to cater to the growing number of online grocery orders, but it quickly found itself struggling to service the sudden spike in orders and keep items in stock for both in-store and online customers in the early days of the pandemic. It was difficult to book a pickup or delivery window, which led customers to seek alternatives.

It entered 2021 with nearly twice as many stores offering same-day grocery delivery, and nearly all of its grocery locations offering curbside pickup. Still, the company isn't quite keeping up with the competition.

The initiatives at Instacart, Amazon, and Target during the pandemic give customers more options. Instacart now delivers general merchandise from some retailers, Amazon offers both curbside pickup and delivery from Whole Foods, and Target now offers curbside pickup or straightforward same-day delivery options with Shipt from its own website.

With its market share of online grocery already falling to 31%, it may not be long before Walmart's share of online grocery falls below its share of the overall U.S. grocery market, which stands around 26%. As more grocery sales move online, that could be a real pain point for sales growth for Walmart, considering the category accounts for the majority of the retailer's revenue.

Walmart has introduced an unlimited grocery delivery service called Delivery Unlimited, as spotted by TechCrunch. The service is an expansion of the company’s existing delivery and pickup efforts, and costs $98 a year.

The company already offered a delivery service for online orders: customers could have items shipped to their nearest store for free, or to their home for a $9.95 delivery fee for each order. TechCrunch notes that this new annual subscription will cost $98 for a year, or $12.95 a month, and allows customers to skip the per-order fee. To use it, customers place their order on Walmart’s site or app, and can select a delivery window for when they want their order delivered.

This annual service comes as Walmart has introduced a number of other initiatives to try and entice online shoppers to its stores, including introducing free, one-day shipping for orders over $35, pickup towers a number of its stores, and even an in-home delivery service that will allow employees into your house to place groceries directly into your refrigerator.

Walmart has been stepping up its efforts against other online retailers in recent months, and Amazon’s Prime membership appears to be the target here. Walmart’s annual fee is lower than Amazon’s $119 annual cost, while Target’s new delivery service with Shipt costs $99 a year, as well as Instacart.

Walmart Online Grocery Pickup

Grocery shopping just got easier! Walmart stores are expanding their awesome, free Online Grocery Pickup service to stores across the nation. This service lets you order your groceries online and pick them up at your local Walmart without ever leaving your car.  This curbside service is absolutely amazing and will put an end to your days of wandering the aisles. Walmart Online Grocery Pickup changed my life and here are 8 Reasons Why Walmart Online Grocery Pickup Will Change Your Life too!

#1 What You See Is What You Get

So many of the pop-up grocery delivery services lately seem like a bait and switch to me. They reel you in with one offer and you later find out that’s not how it really works. Well, Walmart Online Grocery Pickup is not like that at all. It truly is what you see is what you get. There’s no subscription fee. No delivery fee. No gratuity required or accepted. Same low-prices that you find in-store. Same day pickup if you order by 10am. You order what you want. You tell them when you’ll be there and they load it into your car. Boom. Done.

#2 It’s a Total Weeknight Timesaver

Most people work an 8-5 job and they don’t have the luxury of going to the store at 9am on a Tuesday like me. I’ve done the post-office grocery store run and it’s a madhouse in there! And Saturday or Sunday afternoons are not much better. Save yourself a ton of time and your sanity. Order your groceries through Walmart Online Grocery Pickup. Call them when you are 10 minutes away and you’ll be loaded up and headed home before your coworker walks from the parking lot to the front of the store. And it’s so convenient that all the 9am Tuesday shoppers like me can have their spouse do it on their way home from work. So now I don’t have to go at all!

Walmart Online Grocery Pickup

#3 It’s Like a Drive-Thru, Over-the-Counter Pharmacy

You know when you are sick but you aren’t sick enough to go to the doctor? Or maybe it’s a virus that antibiotics won’t help? And you can barely make it out of bed long enough to turn on Paw Patrol, so finding everyone’s shoes and dragging them into the store with you is out of the question? And you can’t use the Pharmacy drive thru for cough drops, kleenex and cold medicine, right? Well Walmart Online Grocery Pickup is your dream come true. Order everything you need, pull in to the parking lot and they will bring it to your car. You don’t even have to get out of the car. So it doesn’t matter that you are still in your pajamas and one of your kids doesn’t have on pants.

#4 Because You Have No Idea How to Choose a Cantaloupe

I seriously struggle with produce. I am notoriously bad at picking watermelons, cantaloupes, mangoes and don’t even get me started on coconuts. Walmart Online Grocery Pickup makes it a breeze. Their grocery experts carefully choose all your items, including produce, meat and seafood. I was pretty skeptical myself but I’ve done this 3 times now and all my produce has been perfect. Plus it helps that Walmart offers a freshness guarantee. If you are not satisfied with a product you receive through Walmart Grocery, simply call Customer Care for a refund.

#5 No More Checkout Line Embarrassment

We’ve all been there. Your daughter has a case of head lice and your son may or may not have athlete’s foot. Toss in an oh-my-gosh-are-we!? pregnancy test and some hemorrhoid cream and you’re set for checkout disaster. Because as soon as you put all those things on the checkout belt, here comes Gossip Mom right in line behind you. You turn red and frantically try to hide it all under the cereal boxes and frozen veggies. Avoid all the embarrassment with Walmart Online Grocery Pickup. Plus you can send your husband to pick it up and he’ll have no idea he just brought home a club-size box of super plus tampons.

#6 It’s Flat Out Cheaper

I mentioned above about how there’s no subscription fee and the same low-prices that you find in-store. But what really makes Walmart Online Grocery Pickup cheaper is that you won’t have any impulse purchase. This means an end to all the candy and crackers to bribe your kids to behave. No more random nail polish bottles that you think you have to have when you are in-store and none of the “I must have Chocolate!” guilty purchases. You get what’s on your list and only that, every time.

Walmart Online Grocery Pickup

#7 Get Out of the Substitution Game

It’s so frustrating when your store is out of something you need. So you spend what seems like hours looking at all the other items near it, searching for a suitable alternative. Let Walmart Online Grocery Pickup worry about that for you. First of all they have nifty little devices that tell them where all the items are in the store. This means they check end caps and back stock to make sure your desired item truly is out of stock. If that’s the case, they will substitute your item for the closest alternative and if that means a cheaper price, then you are refunded the difference. If the substituted item is higher in price, you pay the lower price. And if you are super brand loyal, you don’t have to enable substitutions. Just grab the item on your next order.

#8 It Makes Vacation a Breeze

When we go on vacation we love to go with a vacation rental instead of a hotel because there’s more space and we can cook our own meals. The only downside is shopping once we arrive at our destination. Shopping at a different store is always tricky. You aren’t familiar with where things are. You wander around trying to find just what you need with the whole family in tow. It can be crazy. Not with Walmart Online Grocery Pickup! Select an eligible store in your destination city and pick up your groceries when you roll into town. Plus you can order it all before you leave because Walmart lets you select a pickup date up to 2 weeks in the future!

So there you have it. I’m fairly confident that Walmart Online Grocery Pickup will change your life like it’s changed mine. Plus for a limited time, you can get $10 off your first Walmart Online Grocery Pickup order of $50 or more. That’s a 20% savings on meat, produce and the things you buy every single week. So why not give it a try!

Normally, I love grocery shopping—there's something calming about walking through the aisles and browsing for my weekly meals. However, with long lines and the threat of the COVID pandemic, grocery shopping isn’t quite the same. Most of us are rushing through aisles with our masks on, hoping for a self-checkout to be open to reduce contact, and washing all our produce as soon as we get home. Others are ordering groceries online and paying $7–$9 in delivery fees.

Walmart recently unveiled its new membership service, Walmart+, which claims to offer a time-saving and safe way to stock your pantry and keep your fridge full of your favorite items. Walmart+ is a membership-based service that offers free shipping and grocery delivery, fuel perks, and mobile checkout for in-store shoppers. It's on its way to becoming an Amazon Prime competitor, but when it comes to grocery delivery, it has a pretty big leg up on popular grocery delivery services like Instacart and Shipt, namely because delivery is free (when your order is over $35).

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you're considering ordering groceries from the new service.

Walmart+ offers free, unlimited delivery

For starters, Walmart+ is an addition to its 5,000-plus stores across the nation. Over half of Walmart stores offer same-day service, so Walmart+ is great if you need essentials ASAP or you just love receiving things on-demand (don’t we all?). There is also a one-hour delivery window in some zip codes.

But Walmart+ doesn't deliver everywhere

Even though Walmart+ makes a great delivery option for those who live next to a Walmart, the service is unavailable in many metropolitan areas without participating Walmart stores. People living in big cities like New York City or Boston can't use the service yet, but those living in smaller towns and rural areas can. Check your availability by entering your zip code on the site and seeing if you're eligible for delivery perks.

Walmart+ is easy to use

Woman ordering groceries on an app while holding a baby.

Buying groceries is so simple with Walmart+. Browse Walmart’s selection of groceries—snacks, meat, even household cleaners and paper products—and add to your cart. You’ll get Walmart's signature low prices, and once you hit the minimum of $35, you can select free delivery to your home or a one-hour window for contactless, curbside pickup. You can also shop directly from the Walmart app, if you prefer.

Walmart+ may be cheaper than Instacart

The price of your grocery delivery will vary depending on what you purchase, but Walmart+ has an advantage over its competition—namely Instacart—because it doesn't charge for delivery. Instacart will charge $3.99 per delivery for orders over $35, plus it may charge additional fees depending on what you order, including heavy fees for bulky items, service fees for changes to your order, bag fees where necessary, and any additional fees required by your state. You also have the option to tip your driver, which you should be doing if using a delivery service like Instacart.

While Walmart+ won't charge for deliveries over $35, you do need to pay the monthly or yearly fee ($12.95 per month or $98 per year). This equates to about three grocery delivery fees from Instacart, so if you purchase groceries three or more times each month, it may be worth investing in Walmart+.

You can order more than groceries on Walmart+

Graphic of membership perks.

Walmart+ offers a great option for grocery delivery if you live within its range, but the service will deliver much more than just groceries. Essentially, you can order anything that would be in stock at your local Walmart store, so you can add household supplies, like cleaning products and paper towels, or you can stock up on notebooks and school supplies for at-home learning. And, Walmart has a wide selection of games, toys, and electronics that are eligible for delivery with Walmart+, too.

Should you sign up for Walmart+?

A Walmart employee and customer.

If you live in an area eligible for Walmart+ perks, and you purchase groceries multiple times a month, the service may make a great addition to your lifestyle. Its selection of groceries and goods is huge, so if you're near an eligible Walmart, it's worth giving the service a try (especially since you can sign up for a free 15-day trial). If you don't live near a participating Walmart, we recommend waiting to sign up for the service until it expands to more zip codes in the future.

Walmart Grocery Delivery: Everything You Need to Know

We include products we think are useful for our readers. If you buy through links on this page, we may earn a small commission. Here’s our process.

Grocery delivery services are a convenient, easy way to stock up on all the items on your shopping list.

Walmart Grocery is one of the most popular services available, especially among those who frequently shop at Walmart.

In addition to boasting a wide selection of products on its website and app, the company offers curbside pickup and delivery depending on your location.

This article reviews everything you need to know about Walmart Grocery.

How it works

Walmart Grocery is a service that offers curbside pickup and delivery of groceries from your local Walmart store.

Using the company website or app, you select from a variety of foods, drinks, or home decor.

You then reserve a time slot to pick up your groceries or — depending on your location — have them delivered. Note that Walmart only delivers to certain cities.

Grocery selection

Walmart Grocery offers a wide selection of foods and products.

Using the website or app, you can easily shop for many types of meats, eggs, dairy products, canned goods, condiments, grains, seasonings, snacks, frozen foods, prepared products, and supplements.

You can also choose from an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, including conventional and organic varieties.

Plus, many other goods are available, including kitchen appliances, dinnerware, home decor, and food storage containers.

Product availability is subject to what’s in stock at your local Walmart. Out-of-stock items will be substituted for similar products unless otherwise specified.

You have the option to refuse a substitution if it doesn’t suit your needs or preferences. Simply inform the Walmart associate at curbside pickup, and they’ll remove it from your order. For delivery orders, you’ll have to follow the refund steps.

Variety and brands

In addition to carrying Walmart’s own brands like Great Value, Marketside, and Sam’s Choice, Walmart Grocery offers many other major brands.

The Walmart Grocery website includes detailed information about each item, including whether ingredients are organic, grass-fed, or sugar-free.

Thus, you can easily buy items that fit your needs, budget, and personal preferences.

Taste and freshness

The taste and freshness of your order largely depend on which items you select.

Certain foods like canned goods, boxed dinners, snacks, drinks, and cooking supplies are likely to arrive safe and undamaged.

However, fresh produce like fruits and vegetables may range in quality.

If you have an issue with anything in your order or any items arrive damaged, you can request a refund using the app or website.

Packaging and materials

After you place your order, a store associate places your items in plastic bags and either loads them into your car or delivers them.

Any applicable bag fees in your region are automatically added to your order.

One downside is that you’re currently unable to use your own bags or opt for reusable bags to reduce your use of plastic. However, some locations have collection bins for plastic bag recycling, and they’re usually located at the front of the store.

Still, if you prefer not to use plastic bags, you may want to shop in-store or seek a more sustainable grocery service.

Pricing

Walmart Grocery has a $35 minimum for all orders placed online.

While curbside pickup is free, delivery generally costs $8–10 depending on the time and date that you select. Notably, delivery is free if you have a Walmart Plus membership, which costs $13 per month.

Optionally, you can use the app or website to tip your delivery person.

Diet friendliness

Walmart Grocery boasts a variety of foods that fit nearly any diet.

For example, vegetarians and vegans can purchase fruits, vegetables, canned, goods, tofu, and plant-based meat alternatives.

Likewise, meat, eggs, butter, vegetable oils, and dairy products are available for those following a ketogenic diet.

There are also many options for people with food allergies or intolerances, including lactose-free milk and gluten-free products.

Keep in mind that it’s not currently possible to filter items based on dietary restrictions or specific ingredients. Therefore, it’s important to carefully check the labels and ingredient lists of products before purchasing them.

Comparison with competitors

One noticeable difference between Walmart Grocery and its competitors is that other delivery services permit you to order from different grocery stores in your area, but Walmart Grocery limits you to products in its own stores.

For example, Instacart offers same-day delivery and pickup from various grocery stores, including Walmart. Same-day delivery starts at $3.99 for orders over $35 while fees for orders under $35, 1-hour deliveries, and club store deliveries may vary.

Shipt is another similar service that delivers from many local and national retailers. Passes are available for one-time orders, or you can purchase a membership that includes free delivery on orders over $35 for $14 per month.

Who should try it?

Walmart Grocery delivery may work well for those looking for a fast, convenient, and affordable way to order their weekly groceries.

It’s especially useful for people who purchase most of their groceries from Walmart rather than other stores.

Additionally, because Walmart Grocery not only offers prepared and frozen meals but also a variety of fresh ingredients and produce, it may be ideal for anyone who prefers to cook most of their meals at home.

However, those who don’t live near a Walmart store or prefer to shop elsewhere may find other delivery services to be a better fit.

The bottom line

Walmart Grocery is a service that offers delivery and curbside pickup for groceries and other Walmart products.

It may be worth a try if you purchase most of your groceries from Walmart and are looking for a quick, convenient way to stock up on your favorite foods.

Although it may be slightly more expensive than some competitors and only allows you to purchase products from Walmart, it boasts a wide selection of groceries and is simple to use.

Grocery shopping is one of those things that you either love or hate. But either way, it can be time-consuming and budget crippling. Try making a quick run at your favorite grocery store during the dinner hour and you’ll likely wish you would have opted for greasy takeout instead. Thankfully, there is an easier way to do your regular grocery shopping — and in less than 30 minutes a week.

Walmart Grocery is a game-changer for both your schedule and your budget. But, how exactly does Walmart grocery pickup work? We’re bringing you the full story on this free grocery pick-up service.

How to Use Walmart Grocery

Signing up for Walmart Grocery is simple. Either go to Grocery.Walmart.com or download the Walmart Grocery app (available on iOS or Android).  Some shoppers may see Walmart Grocery as an option on the main Walmart App, but that’s a project that will be rolled out over the course of 2020.

Once you have an account, select a primary store from which to pick up your orders. You can always change this location if you happen to be out of town. Then, just start adding whatever your heart desires to your cart. Walmart makes it easy for you by having popular categories to shop huntington atm columbus ohio. You can also select to shop from previous orders or search for terms like “keto” or “vegan” to find related grocery items.

What Can You Order?

You can use the Walmart Grocery app to order almost anything that pertains to groceries, health supplements, toiletries, pet food and supplies and other common household items. Personally, I’ve ordered party supplies, makeup and even promoted specials during the back-to-school sale. If it pops up while you search the app or site, then you can order it through grocery pickup.

You can now also order alcohol for both pickup and delivery. Just note that you’ll have to show ID when your order is received.

All orders must be $30 or more to qualify for pick up. And, unfortunately, using coupons is just not an option with this service. You can, however, use SNAP.

How do You get Your Order?

If you choose to pick up your Walmart Grocery order, just select a time that works with your schedule. Walmart offers an hour window in 15 different time selections, starting with 7:00-8:00 a.m. and ending with 9:00-10:00 p.m. Your local Walmart hours may vary slightly if it opens up later or closes earlier, so be sure to check before you buy.

Picking up your order amazon video login page simple. Just check-in on your app when you’re on your way, and it will use GPS to alert team members when you arrive. There will be a marked section to park in, usually on the side of the store.

A team member will greet you, confirm your order, let you know about any substitutions and have you sign that you amazon fire stick best buy picking up your order. The team member will then get your grocery order and load up your car. There’s no need to get out of your vehicle — it’s that easy.

How Soon Can I Pick Up my Order?

Usually, there are very few Walmart grocery pickup time options if you’re looking to do a same-day pickup, but that depends on your local store. You can schedule a time up to six days in advance.

You’ll receive an email and app notification when your order is walmart grocery order. Then you have until 15 minutes after the end of your scheduled time to pick up your order. Some stores may accommodate tardier pickups, but again that’s up to managerial discretion. If you know you’re going to be late, just call customer service and they can help hold your order.

If you miss your pick up time, a team member will call you to reschedule. Just note that if you don’t reschedule, your order will be canceled, and you might be charged a restocking fee.

How Much is Walmart Grocery Delivery?

Delivery is available on Walmart What time does the fifth third bank open orders and costs either $7.95 or $9.95, depending on the time. Delivery times typically start an hour later than pick up times. For example, if the soonest pickup slot was 7:00 a.m., the soonest delivery would 8:00-9:00 a.m.

While not required, it is highly recommended that you tip your delivery driver through the app. They don’t work for Walmart, and keep 100% of their tips.

Ordering Meat and Produce with Walmart Grocery

Some shoppers are worried about having someone else pick out their meat and produce. I have done more than 40 Walmart Grocery orders, and I’ve never had a problem with the quality of the meat or produce selections.

That said, it is Walmart. Some things are of walmart grocery order quality than competitors. For example, I don’t like the Great Value raw chicken breasts and find that other brands are better. If you don’t have experience with Walmart’s meat selection, try a small package before hosting a block-wide barbecue. It is also a good idea to order in-season produce for the best quality.

You can order produce and meat in .25-pound increments, and they will try to match that selection as closely as possible. Your price might go up or down depending on the final weight of the items. I’ve found that team members do try to honor your budget as best as possible, and will choose a lighter food item over a heavier one. For example, if you order a 5-pound roast, you are more likely to get a 4.55-pound roast than a 6-pounder.

If you are ever unhappy with any of the meat or produce selections, you can let them know. You can also refuse an item for an immediate replacement or refund on-site, or you contact customer service at a later time.

What if I Need to Change My Order?

You can change or cancel your order a few hours after you place it. You can also add items to your order if you forget something. Plus, add-ons do not need to hit a minimum spending limit.

What if My Item is Out of Stock?

For each item, you can select whether you want to allow substitutions or not in case that item is out of stock. If you allow for substitutions, you will receive a replacement that is similar, larger or better brand or quality. For example, I ordered a three-pack of romaine lettuce and it was substituted with the organic version that costs $1.50 more. You don’t have to pay the price difference if your replacement costs more, though.

Most of the time, the substitutions are on par with what you were buying. However, if you’re not happy with the substitution, you can refuse any item on-site for an immediate replacement or refund. If you discover you don’t like the substitute later on, customer service will refund your money for the item, and you’re not required to return it.

Of course, you can always turn off substitutions for your whole order or for specific items. My local Walmart can never seem to get my order of low-carb tortillas correct, for instance. It usually replaces them with a regular package of tortillas, which is not what I want. In this case, I just select for employees not to substitute that item. If your item is out of stock and you don’t want a substitute, you will receive a refund.

Who is Walmart Grocery Best For?

As a mom of three kids ages seven and under, I recommend the service to anyone and everyone. I usually make a quick, loose meal plan Friday night and I’m able to order our groceries and toiletries in less than 20 minutes. Then I get the groceries first thing Saturday morning while doing a donut run for the kids.

Since most people in my city don’t like to get up that early, the pickup is often 10 minutes or less.

Walmart Grocery is a great option if:

  • You’re a busy parent that doesn’t want to take your kids into the store.
  • You don’t have time to shop, but want to save money and make healthier choices.
  • You struggle to stick to a budget or healthy food choices (shopping the app/site helps curb impulse buys).
  • You are prepping for a party or get together and wish you had a personal shopper.

Of course, the Walmart Grocery service isn’t for everyone. Here are a few shoppers who might not like it:

  • Couponers that rely on paper or digital coupons to save the most money.
  • Shoppers in a hurry during the holidays. Wait times are much longer during holidays, and many things go out of stock.
  • Picky shoppers. If you aren’t a fan of Walmart’s meat or produce, then you aren’t going to be swayed by the free pickup option.
